The body is characterized by a fleshy beet root, a lack of surface central-shoot and long, finger-like warts with a two-divided-areole. The flakes are connected parallel to shell-like hairs with a light brown center. The flower opens later in the afternoon. There occur multible flowers from one areole. The fruits open lateral. crossbreedings with other Astrophytums has only led to chlorophyll-damaged hybrids (Lüthy, J., Dicht, R. 2007 p. 151).
