Are Astrophytum caput-medusae D. Hunt
and Astrophytum subg. Stigmatodactylus valid?
Digitostigma caput-medusae became new combined by D. Hunt to Astrophytum caput-medusae. The reasons which he states are probably entitled. Unfortunately however still several important criteria are unsettled or not examined sufificient today. There are few observations about the crossings, seedlings (page 182 of the book) and investigations about the flakes (page184, 185 of the book). The species is taken up therefore provisionally and will be completely integrated in the web-documentation Astrophytum when more secured realizations are present. In the paper-version of the monograph you will find the plants already with all important facts, descriptions and photos of the latest state of knowledge (spring 2008).
