Astrophytum myriostigma v. columnare (K. SCH.) Tsuda

Introduction:
Astrophytum myriostigma v. columnare was "invented at the desk" by the regular monthly meeting of the German Kakteengesellschaft. About the specimens of the first description, presumably imported plants, unfortunately no details are handed. It is true that slender growing Myriostigmas exist in nature, but a habitat which home only plants that meet the definition of Karl Schumann has been unable to discover since more than 100 years now. There are reports about individual plants, especially in the area around the intersection Huizache in San Luis Potosi, by Glass and Foster. Glass has informed the author in conversation, that these specimens were always found in isolation. An interesting photo of a 90 cm high plant was taken by Peter Schätzle in a collection of cacti in Parras de la Fuente, the specimen came also from the area around Huizache (Schätzle, P. 1990 p. 94).
The best Astrophytum specialist in his time H. W. Viereck regarded Astrophytum myriostigma v. columnare and Astrophytum myriostigma ssp. tulense as synonyms. The Tulense south of Tula in Tamaulipas is a homogeneous plant community. But it differs from Columnare from the first description by higher rib numbers, and above all intensely fragrant flowers.

The author considers Astrophytum myriostigma v. columnare also as an unsecured synonym of Astrophytum myriostigma ssp. tulense.
