Astrophytum myriostigma ssp. tulense south Tula, Tamaulipas

The plants in this remote area (1050 m above sea level) have a variable habit from sharp-thin ribs until more round ribs. The rib number ranges from 5 to 8, 4-ribbed copies could not be found. Detached Myriostigmas grow as a beautiful uniform columns, while those who live in or on the edge of hechtia fields have cone-shaped forms. Particularly striking are the many, not withered but very sessile buds on the areoles. This feature is not lost by plants in culture.
