The best known species of the genus Astrophytum might be Astrophytum myriostigma Lem. The various manifestation in the Mexican native country and in culture frequently available as crossings often take the cactus enthusiast to embarrassment at the naming. Plants can be divided into three large groups. On the one hand, it is the population of the Jaumave high-valley with small flowers and isolated rudimentary spines on young plants. A plant from this form circle can be seen on the title page of this magazine. South of Tula columnar Myriostigmas are found with nice-smelling flowers. Between the areas of these 'Columnares' and the capital San Luis Potosi of the federal state of the same name grow the so called 'Potosines'.
